Southeast Alaska Halibut Fishing Trips
Join us at Dove Island Lodge
The brute strength and massive size of the north’s favorite flatfish (halibut) provide the
ultimate challenge for any angler, and make our Southeast Alaska halibut fishing charters
world renowned as the pinnacle for targeting these plentiful fish. Sitka Alaska is
recognized by experts as the best location for Southeast Alaska halibut fishing
trips, as catch rates rival those of any location within the state.
Our Alaska halibut fishing trips at Dove Island Lodge focus on providing our
guests with the once in a lifetime thrill of landing their Alaska Halibut limit. Seventy
percent of all our anglers accomplish this feat on a daily basis.
We use two different vessels for our Halibut fishing trips, both known for their comfort, speed, and ability
to handle our unpredictable waters. Our 28-foot SeaSports is built for six
anglers, but we only carry four maximum on our Alaska halibut fishing trips. Our
Halibut fishing boats are equipped with modern radar, GPS, fish-finders, and VHF radios.
Cabins are heated and there is plenty of room for all anglers to have a seat,
and there is even a private head.
Our
34.5-foot Coldwaters vessels provide one of the finest rides in the industry,
and are perfectly suited for our Southeast Alaska halibut fishing trips. These boats
are built for ten people, but we only fish a maximum of four to six anglers
which translates into 15-feet between each fisherman. The 11-foot beam boasts a
full walk-around, making it that much easier to land the big barn-door Halibut.
These vessels make our run-times to the Halibut fishing grounds a breeze, and make it
possible to Halibut fishing within one hour after departing the dock.
The
finest of gear is a must for any Alaska halibut fishing trip, and at Dove Island
Lodge we provide our anglers with only the best. We use stand-up Penn
International Gold rods equipped with Accurate and Shimano two-speed reels. Our
Halibut fishing
equipment takes some of the strain off the angler when pulling in a lunker
halibut from the deep. Fighting harnesses are provided and can help diminish the
burn when the Halibut fishing action heats up.
Our halibut fishing captains are all licensed by the U/S. Coast Guard. We are proud to employ
guides who are Alaska residents with many years of experience targeting local
waters. Their knowledge of the fish, and the techniques used to catch them,
makes it possible for our guests to enjoy the tremendous success we’ve come to
expect. A deckhand accompanies all of our Halibut fishing trips and makes sure you’re always
baited and ready to go.
Join us at Dove Island Lodge for one of the most exciting Alaska halibut fishing
trips you will ever experience.
